Some needed clarification
It has been brought to my attention that the term “armchair adventurer” I used in one of my earlier blogs needs to be clarified. There are, in fact, two types of armchair adventurers. The first kind is the kind I was targeting in my blog. This is the type that watches or reads about people that do adventurous things and sits there on his couch and criticizes them and talks about what he would have done differently. They have no desire to travel, as watching NASCAR and drinking Miller Genuine Draft is far more exciting than breaking a sweat. Now, if you know me, you know I hate people that criticize the people that DO, when these people, in fact, DO not. I may have posted this quote earlier, but it captures the essence of what I’m trying to say, “It behooves every man to remember that the work of the critic is of altogether secondary importance, and that, in the end, progress is accomplished by the man who does things.” -Theodore Roosevelt. Critic = Secondary Importance
The second type of armchair adventurer is the opposite. This type watches National Geographic and the Discovery Channel and reads about adventures and wishes and dreams that he can be with the people involved in the journey. This type of person would love to travel and see, but doesn’t have the means or ability to do so. This type would rather make it possible for his children or loved-ones to do these things than to do them himself. This type, I admire. The first type, I despise.
So, there you have it, some needed clarification.
